The Hack'n WOW #2 Hackathon was an intensive weekend event focused on developing innovative eco-friendly technology solutions. This immersive experience brought together teams of developers, designers, and innovators to conceptualize, design, and build working prototypes addressing environmental challenges within a strict time constraint.
Our team was tasked with creating a technology solution to reduce waste in urban environments. We developed "WasteWise," a mobile application that uses computer vision to help users properly sort recyclables and track their environmental impact through gamification elements.
Key features of our solution included:
Applied techniques for quickly developing a working prototype from concept to demo, including paper prototyping, wireframing, and MVP feature prioritization to meet the tight deadline constraints.
Implemented agile methodologies including sprint planning, stand-up meetings, and continuous integration to efficiently coordinate team efforts and adapt to changing requirements during development.
Applied creative problem-solving approaches to overcome technical challenges and resource limitations, including developing simplified algorithms that could realistically be implemented in the hackathon timeframe.
Developed and delivered a compelling pitch presentation demonstrating our solution, highlighting key features, environmental impact, and potential for real-world implementation to a panel of judges.
Our team placed in the top 5 finalists, receiving recognition for the practical application of technology to environmental challenges. The project demonstrated how mobile applications can encourage sustainable behaviors through engaging user experiences.
